Much has happened over the last two weeks that erodes our freedoms and liberties. These in turn are an escalation of a longer, more silent, but just as insidious erosion. In the reasons for declaring independence and a state of rebellion by "The unanimous declaration of the Thirteen United States of America" the many citations include:
“He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
“He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right inestimable to them, and formidable to tyrants only.
“He has obstructed the administration of justice, by refusing his assent to laws for establishment of judiciary powers.
“He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
“He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.
“He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies, without the consent of our legislatures.
“He has affected to render the military independent of, and superior to, the civil power.
“He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws, giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation: ... For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury; for transporting us beyond seas, to be tried for pretended offenses; ... For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments [NAFTA, WTO, proposed FTAA, etc.];
“He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation, and tyranny already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy of the head of a civilized nation....
“In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms; our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the rule of a free people.”
To this list, I'm sure we could list many more to reflect the modern times and current abuses. A real American patriot with a flag flying on his or her house or car would never submit to any of the recently passed "legislation" and "executive orders".
In our call to action, let us use the words of Madison, Jefferson, Paine, Adams, etc., because no current "patriot" could refuse to acknowledge or follow the words, deeds, and actions of the original patriots. The current pseudo patriots, whether Republican or Democrat, have absolutely no defence against the weapons of the DECLARATION, CONSTITUTION, BILL OF RIGHTS, and THE RIGHTS OF MAN.
I work with these documents with my students on a daily basis. If we are to have any chance of rescuing our country from the forces trying to take it from us, then we must use the tools of the first revolution. And we must start using them NOW!!! Any further delay is unjustified. To expend energy on uncovering the real instigators of 11 September will be of no use if our abilities to do anything about it are denied us.
Indeed, the whole struggle has distilled itself to a very common basis: Do we fight to regain and re-expand our freedoms and liberties and establish control over the free-market beast and its allies, or do we sit around and debate esoteric theories about who might have done what, and which news outlet isn't telling us the truth today? To do the latter is to surely lose, while to do the former is to rally all our forces around one common and very recognizable theme: Are we to have liberty or tyranny? This is what the real war of good versus evil--freedom versus terrorism--is really about.
